Privacy Policy

Recovery is private. So is your data. Here's exactly what we collect, why, and what we never touch.

GamQuit is built for people in recovery from gambling addiction. We understand that privacy isn't a nice-to-have for our users — it's often the difference between getting help and not. This policy explains exactly what we do and don't do with your information, in plain language. No legalese theater.

This Privacy Policy applies to the GamQuit mobile application and the gamquit.com website (together, the "Service"), operated by GamQuit LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("we", "us").

The short version

  • We don't sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
  • We don't track you across other apps or websites. No App Tracking Transparency prompt because there's nothing to track.
  • You're anonymous by default. You pick a display name. We never ask for your real one.
  • You can delete everything, any time. One tap in the app. We mean it.

What we collect

Information you give us

When you sign up, we collect an email address (so you can recover your account) and a display name (which you choose — make it up if you like). During onboarding, you answer questions about your gambling history and recovery goals. This information stays on your account and is used to personalize your experience.

If you post in the community, comment, or react to posts, that content is visible to other GamQuit users under your display name.

Information collected automatically

We collect basic technical information needed to run the app: a unique user ID, device type and operating system version, app version, crash reports, and aggregated usage data (such as which screens are opened most often). This data helps us fix bugs and improve the product.

Subscription and payment information

Payments are processed by Apple (App Store) and RevenueCat, our subscription management partner. We never see or store your credit card or bank details. We do receive an anonymous subscription status (active, expired, trial, etc.) so we can unlock premium features for you.

What we never collect

  • Your real name (unless you choose to share it in posts)
  • Your physical address or precise location
  • Your phone contacts, photos, or microphone
  • Your bank account, credit card, or transaction history
  • Your social media accounts (unless you connect them yourself for sharing)
  • Health data from Apple Health or any other health platform

Who we share data with

We share limited data with a small number of service providers, only to operate the Service:

  • Supabase — secure database hosting (your account data lives here)
  • RevenueCat — subscription management
  • Apple — app distribution, crash reporting, payment processing
  • Anthropic (Claude API) — only if you use the AI coach feature, and only the text of your message in that moment. Anthropic does not train on your inputs.

These providers are contractually required to protect your data and use it only to provide their service to us. We do not share your data with advertisers, marketers, analytics aggregators, or anyone else.

We may disclose information if required by valid legal process (such as a court order). If this ever happens and we're legally permitted to notify you, we will.

How we use your data

  • To operate the app: track your streak, save your settings, sync across devices
  • To provide community features: show your posts and reactions to other users
  • To fix bugs and improve the product (using anonymized, aggregated data)
  • To send you account-related emails (password resets, important updates)
  • To send you optional motivational notifications and reminders — you can turn these off any time

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, sell to third parties, or train AI models on your personal content.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. Under GDPR (Europe), CCPA (California), and similar laws, you also have the right to:

  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Restrict or object to certain processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, go to Profile → Privacy → Manage My Data in the app, or email us at privacy@gamquit.com. We respond within 30 days, usually faster.

Deleting your account

Open Profile → Settings → Delete Account and confirm. Your account and all associated data — streak history, posts, reactions, onboarding answers — are permanently deleted within 30 days. Backups containing your data are purged within 90 days.

Some data may be retained longer if we have a legal obligation to keep it (for example, financial records for tax compliance), but it will be anonymized and disconnected from your identity.

Children

GamQuit is rated 17+ and intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact privacy@gamquit.com and we will delete the account immediately.

Data security

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest. Access to user data is restricted to a small number of GamQuit team members and only when necessary to operate the Service. We use industry-standard practices, but no system is perfectly secure — if we ever become aware of a data breach affecting your account, we will notify you promptly.

International transfers

GamQuit LLC is based in the United States, and some of our service providers operate in the US and EU. By using the Service, you consent to your data being processed in these regions. For users in the EU/UK, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses to ensure your data is protected to European standards.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you in the app and by email before they take effect. Minor edits (typos, clarifications) may happen without notice — we update the "Last updated" date at the top whenever anything changes.
